Appropriate Loan Finance for Co-operatives

The loan fund previously provided by Avon and Bristol Co-operative Finance Ltd (ABCF) is now owned and managed by Co-operative and Community Finance.

ABCF was an established independent partnership between the co-operative movement and local councils. It aimed to provide an accessible source of loan finance to new start and trading co-ops and other social enterprises in an approachable, supportive and affordable manner, to foster a sustainable and thriving social economy.

ABCF's Objectives were to:

• Lend Money
• Manage loans effectively
• Signpost cost-effective support for clients
• Effective marketing to all eligible enterprises in the area
• Review objectives to ensure that ABCF is consistently meeting its aims and need of its client base

When Co-operative and Community Finance (formerly known as ICOF), one of the UK's leading lenders for social purpose, relocated to Bristol, it provided an opportunity to draw on their experience and expertise to provide the service previously supplied by ABCF.

Loan products previously offered by ABCF included:

• Loans to new-start enterprises
  Up to £25,000
• Loans to trading enterprises
  A maximum of £75,000 depending upon annual turnover
• Small loans
  A maximum of £10,000 depending upon turnover
• Quick Cash Loans
  Between £2,000 to £5,000
• Credit Facility for Established enterprises
  A draw-down facility of up to £100,000 depending on net worth on the company balance sheet
